Retailer wit & whim donates 100% of its profits to a different community-based organization each month. Since its opening in 2012, the store has been hosting window display crafting events for children on Long Island. wit & whim is now broadening its reach into New York City offering the experience to children whose art classes were eliminated due to budget cuts. The store’s outreach programs have expanded its exposure and increased traffic. wit & whim carries an eclectic assortment of vintage, contemporary, Americana and global goods. Owner Laurie Scheinman is a family therapist who created this “whimsical place to stop, shop and play” while giving back to the community she calls home.
“My favorite part about being an ICON Honoree was being among so many seasoned industry people and hearing the litany of shared trials and tribulations we face in our business. The camaraderie was incredible and exhilarating...Being an Icon Honoree gave me the confidence to continue to push the limits of creativity in retail.”
